Fear is not the enemy.
Fear is a deeply intelligent survival response, shaped by our nervous systems, our relationships, our histories, and our longing to stay safe and belong.
Yet for many of us, fear begins to organize our lives. It narrows possibility. It pulls us toward control, avoidance, reassurance seeking, perfectionism, or endless monitoring of symptoms and sensations.
Befriending Fear is an in-depth journey to understand fear and transform our relationship with it.
Through mindfulness, somatic tracking, nervous system education, parts work, relational inquiry, and gentle exposure practices, we learn how to meet fear with curiosity rather than struggle, building greater capacity for uncertainty, aliveness, and life.
This recorded course was originally taught live inside The Gathering Stream and is now available on demand so you can move at your own pace.
Many approaches focus on reducing fear.
This work invites us into a different relationship.
Together we explore how fear operates in the body, mind, nervous system, relationships, and subconscious patterns. We learn to recognize protective strategies with compassion, while slowly creating the conditions for new experiences of safety, choice, and freedom.
The series is held within a paced, capacity-based approach that prioritizes safety, rest, and integration.
Healing does not happen through force. It happens through relationship.

“Since taking your Befriending Fear program, my health fear and panic are a lot better.
My sleep is improving, and I am far less intensely fearful during those times than I used to be.”
“After coming through most of Befriending Fear, my sensitization and some of my symptoms have started to come down somewhat (yay!).
Befriending Fear has changed my life and has given me such a sense of empowerment.”
“The gentle-yet-powerful, multi-faceted teachings are helping me tease apart the intricate web behind my symptoms and fears—finally.
I feel more able to meet difficult emotions, and there have been deeper shifts than I thought possible.”

An introduction to fear, sensitization, and neuroplasticity. We explore how fear becomes self-reinforcing in the nervous system and how symptoms, sensations, and uncertainty can become linked through cycles of protection and alarm. Together we begin to understand fear not as a flaw, but as an intelligent survival response.
Participants are introduced to foundational grounding and orientation practices that support safety and regulation, alongside journaling and reflection exercises to begin mapping fear patterns, triggers, and protective strategies.
Resource: Water — supporting fluidity, emotional movement, and responsiveness without hardening.
We explore the anxiety and compulsion cycle, including intrusive thoughts, reassurance seeking, checking, symptom monitoring, and subtle forms of avoidance that often keep fear alive. Through mindfulness and inquiry, participants begin to recognize the difference between fear itself and the struggle against it.
Acceptance is introduced as a lived practice of willingness and contact, helping interrupt escalation and reactivity while making space for uncertainty, complexity, and life.
Resource: Air — supporting breath, spaciousness, and clarity of perception.
Trauma-sensitive mindfulness and additional nervous system tools are introduced as we learn to stay in relationship with sensations, emotions, and uncertainty without bracing, collapsing, or pushing them away.
We focus on building capacity through small, reliable increments, recognizing that healing often unfolds through repetition, pacing, and attuned practice rather than intensity or force.
Resource: Earth — supporting steadiness, containment, and felt support.
An introduction to Exposure and Response Prevention. We explore the science of exposure and reframe it as a relational and nervous system practice rather than a mental challenge. Choice, pacing, and values are emphasized, making exposure a practice of trust rather than force.
Participants begin creating individualized exposure plans rooted in what matters most to them, learning how freedom grows not through eliminating fear, but through expanding life alongside it.
Resource: Fire — supporting courage, clarity, and forward movement.
We map fear patterns, identify hidden compulsions, and clarify avoidance behaviours that often go unnoticed. Fear hierarchies are created with values and life direction at the center, shifting motivation from symptom control toward meaningful engagement with life.
Together we explore what fear has protected, what it has cost, and what becomes possible when we orient toward the lives we long to live.
Resource: Ether — supporting meaning, intuition, and trust in the unknown.
Exposure practices deepen with guidance, reflection, and support. We explore how confidence and resilience grow through repetition, repair, and self-trust, especially when the process feels nonlinear or messy.
Emphasis is placed on consistency over intensity, recognizing that nervous systems learn through lived experience, patience, and compassionate persistence.
Resource: The Plant World — supporting slow growth, adaptation, and resilience.
We turn toward core fears and their origin stories through journaling, worksheets, parts work, and systemic perspectives. Attention is given to developmental, relational, and generational layers of fear, allowing understanding to replace self-blame and soften long-held patterns.
Participants explore how family systems, attachment experiences, and cultural narratives shape fear and belonging.
Resource: Animal Wisdom — supporting instinct, attunement, and right pacing.
Beneath fear often live grief, shame, anger, longing, and unmet needs. Through somatic presence, compassion, and emotional literacy, these layers are allowed to move without overwhelm or collapse.
As emotional capacity grows, participants begin to experience greater aliveness, flexibility, and connection to themselves and others.
Resource: Ancestral Support — offering resilience, continuity, and connection.
A deeper exploration of OCD themes and subtypes, including harm, responsibility, contamination, health anxiety, and relational fears. We examine how fear organizes through the body and nervous system, shaping vigilance, control, perfectionism, and compulsive strategies in the attempt to preserve safety and connection.
Participants are invited into greater compassion for the protective intelligence beneath fear while continuing to practice new ways of relating.
Resource: The Volcano — allowing pressure to surface, supporting messiness, imperfection, and release through honest contact.
We explore deeper subconscious patterns underlying chronic fear, anxiety, and illness, including hidden loyalties, unfinished relational contracts, and longings for rescue, recognition, or justice.
These patterns are met as intelligent responses to real rupture rather than personal failures. Through a wider ecological and relational lens, we begin to rediscover belonging—not as
perfection or certainty, but as participation in the living web of life.
Resource: The Web of Belonging — holding light and dark, life and death, and restoring connection.

Over the lifetime of this series, from the original 3-part series to the current 12-week course, we have had over a thousand students make their way through and find more freedom.
In a recent survey, 100% of participants said they would recommend the program to friends and family!

We're thrilled to offer bonus access to the 2025-recorded 8-part series at no additional cost. Another way to revisit the material with additional practice and rich Q&A sessions.

There was a time when my life became very small.
After years of chronic stress and complex trauma, my nervous system seemed to unravel. I lived with chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, sensitization, intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, and a body that no longer felt safe to inhabit. I was given diagnoses that I was told I would have for life. Some days I wondered if I would ever feel joy, rest, or ease again.
Fear began to organize everything.
What I thought about, what I ate, how I moved, where I went and the choices I made. My world became increasingly shaped by the hope of avoiding symptoms and finding safety.
Over time, through mindfulness, neuroplasticity, somatic work, exposure, movement, parts work, community, and an enormous amount of practice, something slowly began to change.
I discovered that fear is not the enemy.
Fear is often an intelligent response to pain, uncertainty, loss, and the deep human longing to belong. And while we cannot always control what arises in our bodies or lives, we can transform our relationship with what is here.
Today, I sleep. I dance, travel, eat what I want, and I feel joy. I experience wonder and pleasure. I live a life that once felt impossible.
Befriending Fear was born from this journey, and from years of supporting others living with chronic illness, OCD, anxiety, trauma, and nervous system dysregulation. The practices inside this course have helped many people reclaim parts of their lives they feared were gone forever.
Whether you're arriving with curiosity, skepticism, exhaustion, or a long-held longing to feel more at home in yourself, you are welcome here. There is no perfect way to do this work. We begin exactly where we are.
I hope you'll join us.
With love,
Simona
